Across the country, ICE has unleashed an onslaught of brutality, terrorizing communities, kidnapping children, and killing protestors.
It can be devastating to watch from afar and not know how you can help. But Greenpoint, a neighborhood with no shortage of activists and civically-minded folks, always steps up to the plate.
Below are a few upcoming ways that you can lend your support in the fight against fascism.
Archestratus Bake Sale
When thereโs devastation, war, and catastrophe, Archestratus (164 Huron St.) always answers the call, and this time is no exception. The book store is hosting another of their beloved bake sale fundraisers at the store this Saturday, January 31. The bake sale starts at 2pm and goes until 6pm. Proceeds will support Minnesota organizers
Lake Street Bar Fundraiser
The Minnesota-themed bar (706 Manhattan Ave.) is the perfect place to support the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Stop by Tuesday, February 3, at 7pm.
โWeโll be raising money for mutual aid efforts on the ground in Minnesota to get much needed food, rent, and support to neighbors unable to leave their homes at this time,โ organizers write in a Partiful invite. โThings are changing rapidly so weโll prioritize supporting emergent critical needs at this time next week.โ
ICE OUT National Shutdown
Today (January 30), several local businesses are observing the National Shutdown, which calls for a one-day strike on work, school, and shopping.
However, not all businesses can afford to close (especially in light of the snowstorm) and are offering other ways to help.
Here are a few businesses who have committed to taking action in some capacity: Alter, Awoke Vintage, Bagel Joint, Big Night, Black Spring Books, Clay Space, East River Pilates, The Esters, Fantasy Explosion, Flower Cat Cafe, Good Day Pilates, Land to Sea, Lockwood Shop, Maimoun, Proprietors, Spectacle, Store Called Store, and The Twisted Spine.
Noteโthis is far from an exhaustive list, so if you see someone weโre missing, feel free to DM us on Instagram or email me at editor@greenpointerscom.bigscoots-staging.com.

Never Trumper but never woker here. Imo, the latter help create the former. Heed the words of the writer David Frum at your and your country”s peril. If liberals don’t secure the border, fascists will (and have).
My family’s 200 year homestead area has been invaded by leftists.
My Polish immigrant grandparents bought a three apartment building on North Henry St exactly 100 years ago. They lived off of the rental income when my Dziadzi was laid off of his job at the Taylor Foundry for 2 years during The Depression. Babcia was the Secretary of the Ladies Democratic Club in Greenpoint. Are you saying that your problems are their fault?
This problem was caused by the leftists and he is not wrong. They ruined everything that is good, and what is right. They destroy working class people, and creates a miserable life for people. Can you not see what is going on lately?
New Yorkers are protesting when they see the Rule of Law being replaced with the lawless law of rulers. New York Yorkers are anguished when they see the kidnapping of grandmas, gardeners & 5 year old children. New Yorkers are angry when they see murders in the streets of Minneapolis by thugs acting as judge, jury & executioner. Weโre told by a power-hunger wanna-be-dictator to fear & hate some people โ whether they be migrants or citizens โ-ย and see them as less-than-human scapegoats. If that playbook doesnโt sound familiar to you then check your history books, before theyโre rewritten. It’s no longer a question of mere left & right. It’s a crucial question of right & wrong, of our lives & liberties, of an America reeling from attacks by a sick man who says he’s restrained only by his own mind & โmoralityโ, both here & abroad. Itโs not enough to โsay somethingโ when we โsee somethingโ. We must also DO something when we see American streets filled with armed masked goons ….roaming, preying, injuring, kidnapping & murdering people with impunity. Thatโs not the America where I was born & raised. Thatโs not the America for which so many veterans gave their lives to preserve. Thatโs not the America where we want to live. We must fight to regain the America we love, and the American freedoms we value. We must protect, support & stand with the victims of today – because if we donโt then tomorrow we may become the next victims. Joni Mitchel once sang: “Donโt it always seem to go That you donโt know what youโve got Till itโs gone.โ Donโt let our freedoms be lost & goneโฆ.
These businesses are against the American taxpayer. They must know that Americans pay and voted for ICE. This is not against fascism. This is against โwe the people.โ These businesses have illegals working in their stores and restaurants. How come they donโt hire Americans? Or young Americans? Donโt bring the excuse that they are lazy or drug addicts. Yโall want to pay these illegals less money. We know why you donโt hire us. Those people protesting against ice is an example of Anti-America and fascism. They hate the American people. They prefer to see us broke and homeless. While the illegals are happy and spitting our faces. They act like they own this country and treat us like second class citizens. We the people are sick and tired of it. We are done. Let ICE do its jobs. This is what โWe the peopleโ voted for.
My parents are brother and sister.
